“We’re looking for the for the best of the best, really. And, and by that, I mean, national team level players. So, we have to then open our bandwidth a little bit and look all over the world to find the very best players we can. We had a player last season who missed pre-season because she was playing in the Women’s World Cup with New Zealand!”
Ross Alexander is the Assistant Head Coach for Women’s Soccer at Arizona State University, one of the leading programs in NCAA D1. He joined us on our recent webinar to discuss the route into the top level of women’s college soccer, offering his insights and advice on being recruited and a program like theirs is looking for in a candidate.
Coach Alexander told us about the world class facilities at Arizona State University, a typical day in the life of a student-athlete at ASU, the travel schedule for players on their roster and the attributes that set the top players apart.
He talks about the standard of player he has seen during his three seasons with the Sun Devils, both on his own team and from the opponents they have faced, while giving an insight into his own journey from playing pro academy soccer in Scotland onto NAIA in the States and his progression into coaching.
