The University of Notre Dame boasts one of the best men’s soccer programs in the country and we were delighted to be joined by their head coach, Chad Riley, on one of our recent webinars discussing what it takes to play at the highest level of college soccer in the States.
Sharing his experiences of playing and coaching at Notre Dame, Chad gave us some fascinating insights across a range of topics, covering what his program looks for in a potential recruit, the team culture, the recruitment process, what makes his successful teams and players stand out from the pack, and the mentality required to succeed at the top level.
Coach Riley was a hugely talented midfielder in his playing days and was a four-time all-Big East winner. He scored 10 goals and notched 32 assists in 78 appearances, playing in three NCAA tournaments and setting various records at Notre Dame.
His coaching career has included a successful spell as head coach at Dartmouth University where he guided the men’s soccer team to four consecutive Ivy League Championships and a quarter of NCAA Championship appearances, while previously working under legendary Notre Dame head coach Bobby Clark as his assistant, whom he also played under for the Fighting Irish.
