The Arizona State Sun Devils compete in the Big 12 conference playing against some of the leading programs in the States, and have one of the most decorated athletic programs in the collegiate sport. Viewers on the webinar will get the chance to hear about the route into the top level of NCAA DI soccer for female athletes, what the Sun Devils are looking for in potential recruits, the demands of being a student-athlete at a top ranked university and the playing and training schedules involved.
We’ll also be discussing Ross’s journey to playing and coaching in the States, which will of interest to aspiring international players. As a talented youth player with Falkirk FC and St Johnstone, Ross made the switch from pro academy in Scotland to college in the United States, securing a soccer scholarship at Grand View University in Iowa. He was a four-year starter with the Vikings and was named a three-time NAIA All-American during a successful college playing career where he helped the team to the NAIA Final Four.
Since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education then a master’s degree in Sports Management, Ross has developed a successful coaching career, initially as at his alma matter with Grand View, before becoming assistant coach at WPSL club Des Moines Menace Women and Age Group Director at Sporting Iowa. Ross also completed a master’s in social and cultural pedagogy at ASU, and achieved both his master’s degrees with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
