Did You Know?
The founder of Nike is an Oregon alum – hence why their sports team has all the latest and greatest Nike apparel. The Oregon Ducks athletics teams are well-known for all kinds of uniforms with crazy combos and colours – they come out with something new and different every season!
But that's not all... Nike also gives scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, to five Oregon student-athletes per year whose eligibility has expired and who intended to complete degrees or pursue graduate degrees. The University also gives $5,000 scholarships to two Nike employees per year!
About the Mascot
The University of Oregon is the ONLY University to have a Disney character as their mascot – Donald Duck. He wasn’t always the official mascot though! Back in the 1940s, the UO mascot, Puddles, resembled a certain Disney duck – a fact not lost on Walt Disney himself. When the Disney family met with the Oregon athletic director Leo Harris in 1947, the two men agreed that the school could use Donald Duck as the OFFICIAL mascot.
