We recently caught up with FirstPoint USA alumna, Heather Howie, who shared with us, experiences from her time in the States, what she has been up to since graduation, and advice for any athlete considering pursuing a sports scholarship in the US.
Heather attended Michigan State University as a field hockey student-athlete, commencing her freshman year in August 2011. Throughout her four and a half years – and five seasons – at MSU, Heather tells us she had an “absolute blast!” Stating, “The team, coaches, facilities, university; everything was insane. My most memorable moment would 100% have to be winning the Big Ten tournament, and flying to Syracuse for our Elite 8 game on a private jet.”
After completion of her degree at MSU, Heather returned to Glasgow where she is currently training to be a physical education teacher. In addition to this, Heather plays on the Scotland Women’s National Team – proudly sponsored by FirstPoint USA. A previous member of the U18 Scotland squad, Heather follows in the footsteps of her elder sister, Alison, who also plays for the senior women's team.
Heather states, “I had the time of my life [at MSU], made amazing friends, and got to travel all over the States playing the sport that I love. The four years flies by and gives you a massive opportunity to progress in your career. If anyone has a thought of going at all, I would say DO IT – go for it!!”
Think you have what it takes? Apply to FirstPoint USA today for your chance to head to America on a sports scholarship and embark upon a life-changing opportunity:
