Welcome to FirstPoint USA - Isaac Moraghan

3 min read

We’re thrilled to welcome soccer player, Isaac Moraghan, to join the roster here at FirstPoint USA. We recently caught up with the South Craven School pupil who shares with us, some more about his sporting background, his reasons for wishing to pursue a sports scholarship in the States, what he is most looking forward to upon beginning his life as a student-athlete, and his future aspirations.

Hailing from Keighley, West Yorkshire, Isaac has been playing at his local club, Silsden AFC, from the age of 10. Throughout his time there, Isaac has played in a number of regional tournaments, and adds that he, and his teammates, are currently looking forward to competing in the Gothia Cup in Sweden this July. Outside of soccer, Isaac tells us that he has taken part in dance for the majority of his time at secondary school, and after auditioning, was accepted into the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, in June 2017.

With a lengthy sporting career behind him, we asked Isaac to tell us about his favourite sporting memory to date. He stated, “My favourite sporting memory is definitely when I scored my first goal. I remember feeling the buzz of scoring for the first time, it was incredible; especially, as I’m a defender. I’ll never forget that feeling.”

Isaac tells us that he was attracted to the idea of studying in the US, as he feels it will be a fantastic chance to develop himself, both as a person and an athlete. Isaac adds that living abroad is something that has always appealed to him, and pursuing a sports scholarship is something that will give him the opportunity to do so, whilst also allowing him to continue with his sport. He notes, the opportunity will also be great for his independence, and will hopefully give him the chance to have a future in the world of soccer.

As we often do with our newest clients, we asked Isaac to tell us about his top three sports people of all time. He told us, “My [top sportsperson] has to be Larry Fitzgerald, because of his attitude and work ethic as an athlete.

My second sportsperson is Anthony Joshua; his rise to fame and success as a boxer has really inspired me. Even with all of his fame and money, he still stays humble and remembers where he comes from, which I think is the best thing an athlete could do.

And finally, my third sportsperson is Eric Bailly. In my opinion, he is the best defender in the Premier League. His fitness is unreal, and despite picking up injuries, he still maintains consistency on the pitch. I look up to him because I’m also a defender, and I hope to mirror his playing style and athleticism.”

Finally, we asked Isaac where he sees himself being in 10 years’ time. He stated, “I hope to be playing soccer at a professional level. I want to succeed in soccer ad a player, and with the opportunity I have with FirstPoint USA, it seems possible.”

We’d like to thank Isaac for catching up with us. We’ll keep you updated on Isaac's progress throughout the scholarship process across our various social media platforms; FacebookTwitterInstagram and LinkedIn.
