We recently caught up with FirstPoint USA client, George Brown. Hailing from Burgess Hill, Sussex, George is one of the newest soccer players to join the ranks here at FirstPoint USA. Here, George shares with us, some information about his sporting background, his reasons for wishing to pursue a sports scholarship in the US, and his future aspirations.
George, a former pupil of Burgess Hill Oakmeeds Community School (now named, The Burgess Hill Academy), Brighton & Hove Albion Academy, and Woking Academy, tells us he has had a keen interest in soccer from a young age. Beginning at Under 8 level, George played with Brighton & Hove Albion Academy straight through to an U18 scholar. After making his move to Woking Academy, George states that he was Captain of the U18, U19 and U23 teams. As well as this, George tells us he made 1st Team appearances and was also a regular squad member. George adds, that for the 2016.2017 season he was on loan from Woking at Burgess Hill Town FC; this gave him the opportunity to gain some senior experience.
With a wealth of experience within his sporting career to date, we asked George to tell us about his favourite experience so far. He states this to be gaining his scholarship at Premier League, Brighton & Hove Albion Academy.
George tells us that he wished to pursue a sports scholarship in the US, as it provides him with the opportunity to combine his sports and education together. This is something that George enjoys, and will allow him to make the most of his potential and achieve his goals. Upon arriving in the States and beginning his life as a student-athlete, George tells us that he is most looking forward to the experience of playing soccer in a new country; allowing him to develop both as a person, and within his soccer career.
We often ask our new clients to tell us about their top three sportspeople of all time. Here’s what George had to say...
“David Beckham; because I have studied him and admired his dedication to be the best at his profession.
Steve Morison; an English football player, who plays for my favourite club, Millwall. He made it as a professional football player, by taking the route from non-league to full-time professional. He shows you can take knock-backs and still succeed.
Wayne Rooney; for what he has achieved since making his debut in the English Premier League, along with staying on top of his game for many years.”
Finally, we asked George where he sees himself being in 10 years time. He tells us that he hopes to be a professional soccer player, and making a living out of the sport he loves.
We’d like to thank George for catching up with us. We’ll keep you updated on George's progress throughout the scholarship process across our various social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
