3 min read

We recently caught up with FirstPoint USA client, Damilola Adekunle. Hailing from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, Damilola is amongst the newest soccer players to join the ranks here at FirstPoint USA. Here, Damilola shares with us, some more information about his sporting background, his reasons for wishing to pursue a sports scholarship in the States, as well as his future aspirations.

Damilola is a former pupil of Kingshott School, Hertfordshire, and is a current student at Millfield School. From a young age, Damilola has had a keen interest in sports and tells us he has been performing in athletics and soccer since Year 3 of prep school. Throughout his time at Kingshott School, Damilola tells us he won the Best Footballer Award twice, as well as being awarded the Victor Ludorum in House Athletics, consecutively from Years 3 to 8.

With a lengthy sporting career behind him so far, we asked Damilola to tell us about his favourite sporting memory to date. He stated, “My favourite sporting memory was we I won the Best Sportsman Award at my final prize giving day at [Kingshott School]. It showed that all the hard work I had put into training, fixtures and events had paid off.”

Damilola tells us he was attracted to the idea of studying in the States by the passion US universities have for their sports. This is something that Damilola is looking forward to being a part of, as well as having the opportunity to focus on his studies. Upon beginning his life as a student-athlete, Damilola tells us that he is most looking forward to testing his limits and improving his self, both academically as well as athletically.

We often ask our newest recruits to tell us about their top three sportspeople of all time and their reasons why; Damilola stated...

“Allyson Felix, because of her consistent success in the Olympics and World Championships.

Cristiano Ronaldo, because he shows that hard work correlates with success.

Usain Bolt, because of all he has done for athletics, and the achievements he has accumulated over the years.”

Finally, we asked Damilola where he sees himself being in 10 years time. He tells us that he hopes to have obtained his first degree in Economics and Finance, and to still be actively pursuing his dream of becoming a world class athlete, competing for his country at both the World Championships and Olympics.”

We’d like to thank Damilola for catching up with us. We’ll keep you updated on Damilola’s progress throughout the scholarship process across our various social media platforms; FacebookTwitterInstagram and LinkedIn.
