We recently caught up with Scott Bayliss, one of the newest soccer players to join the ranks here at FirstPoint USA. Originally hailing from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, Scott tells us he is a former pupil of Madras College, St. Andrews. Here, Scott tells a bit about his sporting background, why he wishes to pursue a sports scholarship in the US, and his aspirations for the future.
With an interest in soccer from a young age, Scott tells us that he has played with Borehamwood FC, Bury Town FC, as well as Westbury Social FC. Throughout his time with Borehamwood FC, Scott tells us that one of his favourite moments was scoring a brace in a friendly against West Ham. Scott adds, that one of his proudest moments in his soccer career to date, was scoring two goals against the Arsenal Charity team; the team included some Arsenal team legends, former players, and a few celebrities.
Due to Scott’s step-dad being in the RAF, he tells us that throughout his school years and after completing his GCSE’s, he and his family moved around a fair bit. As a result, Scott states he is yet to begin his further education; so sees the opportunity of pursuing a sports scholarship as a way to progress not only his academics, but also his athletics.
Upon becoming a US student-athlete, Scott tells us that he is most looking forward to overcoming the challenges that it brings; in particular, the aspect of balancing his studies and playing commitments.
Finally, we asked Scott where he sees himself being in 10 years time. He states, “Hopefully in 10 years time, I’ll be able to say that I’ll be slowly winding down a successful career at a [soccer] club in one of the elite leagues.”
We’d like to thank Scott for catching up with us. We’ll keep you updated on Scott’s progress throughout the scholarship process across our various social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
