Today, at the Olympic Stadium in Beijing’s Olympic Park, we co-hosted the country’s first ‘American College Sports Soccer Draft’ alongside our partner, WEsport. The event was the first large-scale draft camp for prospective US student-athletes to take place in China. Today’s Soccer Draft attracted athletes from across Beijing, Tianjin, Chengdu, and many other parts of the country to come and take part.
As with our UK-based sporting assessments, through a combination of lectures and soccer trials, the event succeeded in providing more channels of information and access to those whom wish to attend American universities and become student-athletes. Being the first event of its kind in China, this opens up a new opportunity for high-level domestic athletes to continue playing their sport, whilst also studying towards earning a university degree.
The event began with presentations from WEsport, UCFB and FirstPoint USA to provide more information to the Draft’s attendees about the overall process of applying for sports scholarships in the US. Later in the day, participating athletes underwent tests such as physical fitness and soccer skills.
We had a fantastic time today at Beijing’s Olympic Park, and were thrilled to be a part of China’s first ever ‘American College Sports Soccer Draft’. Our congratulations go to the 29 male & female players who impressed and were signed by our scouting team. We’re thoroughly looking forward to our next event with WEsport in Shanghai this coming Saturday.
