Rugby player, Evan Williams, has recently joined the ranks here at FirstPoint USA. Evan hails from Bridgend, South Wales and has attended both YGG Secondary School in Llangynwyd and Cowbridge Comprehensive School for his sixth form. Successfully transitioning from a Welsh to English education. Here, we caught up with Evan to find out some more about himself, to gain an insight into his sporting background, and to hear why he wishes to pursue a sports scholarship in the United States.
Evan tells us that he has been playing rugby since the age of six. Despite also pursuing soccer, tennis, athletics and cross country, Evan states that rugby has always been his focus. Additionally, Evan’s Father, Uncles and Grandfather were all lovers of the game so he believes he was destined to play the sport. Throughout his rugby career, Evan has played at club, school, county and academy level in Rugby Union, as well as having represented his country in Touch Rugby. Evan states that his favourite sporting experience to date has been singing the Welsh national anthem, prior to playing Scotland in the European Touch Rugby Championship final.
With regard to pursuing a sports scholarship in the US, Evan tells us...
“The idea of venturing out to the states for university truly excites me. It’s an opportunity I could never afford to turn down and I believe it will broaden my horizons both sports wise and academically.” He is most looking forward to experiencing the culture. Stating, “the love for the sports out in the states is incredible, therefore someone as passionate as me will surely fit in and make plenty of new friends.”
We often ask our new clients to tell us about their favourite sportspeople of all time, here’s what Evan had to say...
“My favourite sportsperson of all time is Vinny Pazienza. He was an American boxer who was seriously injured in a car crash. Despite being told he’d never walk again, his determination to never give up helped him to defy all the odds and return to boxing, and become the Middleweight Champion of the World. He truly inspires me and reminds me to never give up.”
Finally, Evan tells us that in 10 years time, he would love to be playing rugby for the American Eagles.
We’d like to thank Evan for speaking to us and we wish him the best of luck for throughout his scholarship process. We will keep you updated on his progress throughout our various social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
