Brooklyn Kerlin had a role to play in the
Olympics Games Opening Ceremony.
Brooklyn is a very talented young
soccer player and has secured a scholarship to
Robert Morris University in Chicago.

Brooklyn joined LOCOG at only 18 after finishing an International Baccalaureate at Richmond upon Thames College as part of the School Leavers programme.
Propelling through the programme, Brooklyn was snapped up to join the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Services Team based initially in Canary Wharf and now in the Athletes Village on the Olympic Park.
Now, at only 20-years old, Brooklyn deals with members of the international Olympic family, VIPs and athletes. However, it is her latest success that will stay with her longest as she was voted in by her peers to represent all Games Makers and walk into the Olympic Stadium carrying the flag for the International Olympic Athletes.
When we spoke to her after she had had just two hours sleep, the moment was still taking affect, she said: “I just can’t explain what it felt like. It was amazing. It’s a moment that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
“I hadn’t told many people, but I had my family and friends watching out for me. Although I knew a little while ago, it came round really quickly as I had been working, it didn’t hit me until I was getting ready to go out.”
Walking out with the world’s greatest athletes and before Sir Chris Hoy carried Team GB’s flag, Brooklyn was understandably honoured to be included, especially as she has sporting aims of her own:
“I’ve got a full scholarship to go to university in Chicago and to play women’s ‘soccer’. I was originally going to go to university in London to study law, but being given the time to think through my options while working for LOCOG changed my mind.
“I love football and it will be great to commit to my sport.”
Achieving so much before even going to university, Brooklyn credits the London 2012 Olympic Games for her opportunities so far: “When I was finishing at Richmond College I never imagined I could do so much and be involved in something so big. To carry the flag was the biggest moment so far.”
Brooklyn finishes with London 2012 in the next week after two years to travel to Chicago and start university, after featuring in the Olympic Ceremony watched by a UK audience of 27 million she will surely be finishing on a high.
