American College Soccer is regarded as a major sport, with approximately 20,000 players competing within the NCAA, NAIA & NJCAA associations.

In Men's soccer at Division 1 level, there are a maximum of 14 scholarships per team. For Division 2, there are a potential 9.9 scholarships available, 12 for NAIA programs. An NJCAA program can have up to 18 scholarships available.
American soccer coaches will all be looking for different players from different postions to make up their teams. Generally, they will be looking for talented young athletes who have the ability or potential, are committed to the game, and have a good sporting background. Position specific skills are attractive and can give you an edge above the rest.

Equally, coaches are interested in recruiting scholarship candidates who have good academic standing. Coaches want players who can perform as well in the classroom as they can on the pitch...if you don't maintain your grades, you don't play!
